Proven School District Leadership
Committed involvement in Menomonee Falls Schools

All three of my children have been very successful and have been given very strong educations going through the Menomonee Falls school district.  I strongly believe in and appreciate our public schools.

My background is in business operations, marketing and program development.  While much has been accomplished in the last 3 years moving our district towards better educational outcomes and improving our finances, much still remains to be done.  I have the background, skills and experience needed to help guide our District forward to deal with new educational targets and measures from the state, ongoing financial pressures and the improvements to operational effectiveness that are needed.

How My Board Decisions Are Made
School Board positions should be non-partisan.  The single most important value a School Board member can bring is the ability to examine the issue from all perspectives and doing the very difficult balancing act between fiscal and educational needs and then voting and acting on what is best for our children and the community as a whole.

Our children are not only our future, they are also our financial present.  Property values are a direct reflection of the quality of our schools. Every decision I have made has kept this reality in mind.

District Accomplishments Since Being Elected in 2009…

Financial:
  • Reduced taxes in 2011 with an already planned reduction in 2012 due to the past year of financial planning by the board.  This has been a very difficult balancing act between the needed state budget cuts and educational programming to continue to drive student achievement.
  • Changed healthcare carriers (I was on the evaluation committee that made this choice) and increased teacher contribution.  Savings: $2,560,000.
  • Restructured teachers’ Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB).  Savings: 50% reduction in benefits to be paid.
  • Closed TJ Middle School.  Savings: approximately $870,000.
  • Negotiated with the Village to move District Offices into Village Hall, allowing the closure of Hiawatha Central Office. Estimated cost savings, beginning year two: $100,000.
  • Laid out the plan to redistrict the elementary schools to reduce the 5K-5 population at Ben Franklin, as promised during the referendum. Estimated savings: $364,000
  • Consolidated the 4K and Early Childhood Program into one center at BF, generating cost savings through  economies of scale.
  • Purchased new budget software to allow for multi-year planning.
  • Educational:
  • Expanded on the success of the Healthcare Academy with new Business Academy and Design and Engineering Academy being launched in 2012.
  • Initiated a Focus on Literacy for the district resulting in increased WKCE and MAP scores.
  • Implemented strategies utilizing MAP scores to improve and develop individualized learning.
  • Opened 4K and Early Childhood Center.
  • Updated technology plan to move from 10-15 to 3-5 year cycles to ensure children have up to date access to technology that supports best educational practices.
Operations:
  • Revitalized our district strategic plan with focus on educational outcomes.
  • Completed the renovation of the High School, on time and within budget.
  • Completed the HVAC renovations to Valley View, Shady Lane, Ben Franklin and Riverside
  • Moved the front office to enhance safety and security at Ben Franklin, Shady Lane and Riverside (buzz in entrances).
  • Completed reconfiguration. Moved the freshmen to the High School; moved the 6th, 7th and 8th grade to North Middle School.
Communications:
  • Added Board Meetings streamed on the Web.
  • Deployed School messenger, with email follow-up.
  • Created monthly newsletter partnership with Menomonee Falls NOW and added electronic distribution.
  • Developed Superintendent updates to the parents, community and staff.
  • Enhanced the individual schools and District web site to include all district meetings, Board minutes, access to policies and other District related materials.
